What is Hands that Heal?
Hands that Heal: International Curriculum to Train Caregivers of Trafficking Survivors provides a comprehensive approach to serving victims of trafficking and educating caregivers so that they may appropriately and effectively provide care and support. This curriculum was developed in two editions: Community-Based and Academic Edition.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
How is it used?
Hands that Heal is being used by secular and faith-based universities, churches and community groups to inspire people to engage in the battle against human trafficking and to train people on how to provide transformational care to survivors of human trafficking.

Community-Based

The purpose of the Hands that Heal:

International Curriculum to Train Caregivers of Trafficking Survivors  Community-Based Edition:   
To provide a community-based curriculum in an interactive educational format that can be used in local communities and churches around the world to:

  • Make people aware of the issues of sex trafficking;
  • Inform them of the multifaceted needs of trafficking survivors; and,
  • Train potential caregivers in introductory transformational care. The Hands that Heal Community-Based Edition is used in participatory, informal training sessions called Training of Trainers (TOTs) to prepare others to teach the Hands that Heal curriculum.

As FAAST members and other organizations continue to respond to the worldwide trafficking issue, there is an ever increasing need of translations of the Hand that heal Community-Based Edition. It is currently available in the following languages:

Academic Edition

The purpose of the Hands that Heal Academic Edition:
To provide an academic undergraduate or graduate 3-credit course on identifying and caring for survivors of sex trafficking. Developed in both an international and Christian context, this curriculum is written for students in Christian colleges, universities, or seminaries and/or other academic institutions around the world in the needs of its survivors by:


  • Breaking cultural and spiritual ground in the hearts and minds of future leaders regarding the injustice human trafficking and specifically sex trafficking;
  • Christ's teaching, life, and the modern-day Church's responsibility and mission to the enslaved, exploited, and those suffering in (or from) sexual slavery; and,
  • Developing in future leaders an informed understanding of the scope of survivor's needs beyond physical rescue and dimensions of care required to help survivors' begin a new life.

How is the Academic Edition being used?

The Academic Edition is being utilized as:

  • A main text for courses at Christian Bible Schools and Seminaries on biblical social justice, human trafficking, modern-day slavery and other issues pertaining to human trafficking (ex. Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Missouri, USA and The Evangelical College of Theology-TEXT, Sierra Leone)
  • A supplemental text for domestic and international Christian colleges/universities and Ministry Training Schools for courses on psychology, counseling, sociology, criminal justice, pre-law, pre-med, religion etc. (ex. Vanguard University, CA)
  • A supplement text for secular colleges/universities for courses on psychology, counseling, sociology, criminal justice, pre-law, pre-med, etc. (ex. Pace University, NY)
